About

Natalya Chagrin Photography

I am a multiple Earphone award winning British audiobook narrator on over 400 audiobook titles with a number of Audiofile reviews. I have my own acoustically treated studio with a Studio Bricks booth all ready for punch and roll narration or remotely directed sessions.

Pseudonym

Don’t tell anyone but I also narrate spicy romance titles under a pseudonym, who has her own Earphones award.

Work

Over the past 9 years I have been lucky enough to work with many of the big producers and publishers in the UK and US on titles as wide ranging as Virginia Woolf’s “Orlando” to Claire McGowan’s “The First Girl”.

I also provide voiceover for technical e-learning and corporate explainer videos, drawing on my many years of education and business experience to bring technical material to life. I am particularly adept at making technical language sound natural so have several repeat clients in that area.

Background

I am based in a quiet town just the right distance from London, where I live with my husband, two children and “loopy” doodle dog. Just over 12 years ago, inspired by wanting my children to live their dreams, I left my City finance career to go to ArtsEd Drama School for an MA in Acting.

Beyond the Booth

I self-published my first novel and recorded the audiobook, The Way Home. I am currently writing my second novel based on Helena Normanton’s journey to being the first woman barrister to practice in England and her campaign to change the restrictive divorce laws.

Genres

I adore books and generally have about 3 on the go: fiction, non-fiction and audiobook. My tastes are eclectic and cover everything from poetry to psychology to astrophysics.

I love narrating in most genres but have to admit to a few favourites. In fiction I enjoy historical fiction so much I am writing it. A suspenseful thriller/ murder always gives me edge of the seat excitement as it builds to the final reveal. And in these troubled times I am finding myself more and more drawn to romance and love stories, like my first novel “The Way Home.”

In non-fiction I am fascinated by history and the inspiring stories of women in particular. I also remain a constant student of human nature through psychology and philosophy ; hopefully guiding us to become more fully who we are and live well with each other.

Voice Description

I have been described as silky-voiced by The Times in Audiobook of the Week. My proudest moments are when a writer says I have captured the voice in their head or brought life to characters in a way they hadn’t expected. As a writer myself I know exactly how hard it is to bring a project to fruition and how much time, care and love is invested in those pages.

Characters and Accents

I enjoy playing with accents and character voices and have a host of British, European and American accents to draw from. As well as my natural voice I have expanded my repertoire to narrate in Southern and Northern Irish accents, British Northern, Welsh, British South- East, mid-Atlantic and General American.

Other Languages

I speak French, Italian and some German and Spanish so am comfortable with pronunciations in those languages. I have also been known to wrap my larynx around Polish, Russian and Icelandic pronunciations as well as some Latin and Ancient Greek.

Work with me

I adore the chance to make audio magic with writers, producers, publishers and other narrators. Please get in touch if you would like to work with me on a narration project as smooth as silk.
